CCYSB "Suspends" Grand Prix

Excerpts from a 1/29/04 letter from the Centre County Youth Service Bureau to entrants and volunteers...

"On behalf of the Lion Country Grand Prix's volunteer committee and Youth Service Bureau's (YSB) Board of Directors and staff, we want to thank you for the time, energy and good will that you have invested in our Lion Country Grand Prix over the past six years.  Unfortunately, this letter is to inform you that the Youth Service Bureau is suspending this event at this time.  We recognize that you and your business associates have invested countless hours as volunteers, race participants, and sponsors and we want to thank you for helping to make the Lion Country Grand Prix the quality event which we have all come to enjoy and look forward to each year.

...the event has been diminishing in recent years on several levels including the number of particpants, the numbers of sponsors, the amount of dollars raised and the level of interest in the community...Grand Prix Committee volunteers considered ways to overcome problems such as go-kart sales, go-kart maintenance time and scheduling, however there were few solutions to these concerns.  Finally, the Committee and YSB decided we could no longer achieve the objectives of the event."
